Understanding recovery phrase backups
What a backup can—and cannot—do for a self-custody wallet.
4 min read · General educational guidance
- 1
Your recovery phrase controls access to your self-custody wallet. Anyone who has it may be able to spend your assets.
- 2
Never provide a recovery phrase to this site or anyone offering support. Legitimate support cannot reconstruct a lost phrase.
- 3
Check your own secure offline backups and the official recovery options of your wallet provider. Do not enter a phrase into links sent by strangers.
- 4
If you have lost both the backup and access to the wallet, recovery may not be possible. Avoid paid recovery services that guarantee results or ask for upfront transfers.
USD Supporter Trust is an independent education site, not your wallet provider. Never share a recovery phrase or private key. For account-specific assistance, use your provider’s official support channel.
